Woody Vines

ok..a lil on Fairy Knowe Backpackers. (I know that lover is writing something as well, but here's my version)
I loved it there! The owner's name is Monica, and she is just perfect. The morning after we arrived we were trying to figure our renting a car, and decided it would be best to get it the next day, but that left us stranded with no food..Monica easily suggested we take her car and go into town, no problem!! Too sweet!! So we were lucky enough, and took advantage of her offer. Fairy Know has a great kitchen, and is supper cozy. Miraculously enough we had the entire property to ourselves up until our last night there. This was phenomenal, as all I needed to do was sleep!!
When we did get our rental the next day it was an orange beetle!! How perfect is orange for me and dreamman. Since Fairy Know is in the town called Wilderness, and there really is stunning nature everywhere, we decided to drive to one of the many trails and enjoy the outdoors. We ended up going on something like a 3 hour hike, that was no walk in the park!! It started off easy enough on a wooded trail. But soon enough the sweeping woody vines began to take over and we had to duck and climb over quite a few!! The trail then went upwards on a hilly bumpy muddy path that was difficult to traverse. Not even halfway though our hike and I was featuring a supreme dewy glow!! This was a welcomed workout though after being cooped up on that bus!!
The trail just seemed to climb and dip and we had to grab onto branches at times to get our footing. Finally the path came to a river that had some rocks and 2 tree logs that we were supposed to balance on and make our way across. I felt like I was in some sort of patience and trust game with nature. Thankfully we found a big stick that we used to dig into the river ground to help balance, then once I was across I had to throw it to Jonathan without letting it go downstream!! This was a very outdoorsy moment for me!!
After we successfully crossed the river we hid our walking stick in some bushes in case there were other people on the trail, because we knew we would have to cross back over and didn't dare think about going it alone without the stick!!!
The trail carried on, and all the trees slopped and dipped into the trail whenever they pleased. All of a sudden there was a wonderful wooden boardwalk that took over the trail. I was quite happy about this, as the unsure footing was making the trail 10 times harder. The boardwalk was smooth, but that did not change the fact that the trail went up and down with long uphill points and even steep stairs at others. After a long while the board walk ended, and there were guys doing construction work, and we thought that was the end, that we would have to turn back. But..the guys said we could proceed..so we did, now, on what was I guess the foundation for the walkway. It was these long paths of rocks piled up, and fencing over them to hold it all together. I suppose they would then build the wooded planks on top. This made the hike difficult again, as the footing was much less secure. Finally we made it to the end of the trail which was 2 stunning waterfalls. The first one was right at the end of the trail, and the second we literally had to scale some huge smooth slanted rocks to get to it!! Can you people believe this??!! Can you see me scaling rocks??!! Ummmm!!! zztzt.
Needless to say this was an extreme adventure. We then had to make it all the way back before it got dark. We miraculously made it back just in time, and this means we were working it out..this hike was no stroll that's for sure. By the time we reached our beetle I had the worst blister covering the entirety of my right heel!! Besides that drams the hike was worth it, and we felt good.
Its nice to get a real taste of nature sometimes after being in a city and on a bus!!
Over all we completely enjoyed our time at Fairy Knowe, and I am so glad to have had a relaxing moment before more time traveled.

Hooray for hiking through the brush and finding nature's rewards for the hard work!

Moleskin for the blister, and you'll be good as new.

So glad to hear that you are both having such a wonderful time, despite the long periods of moving from place to place, but from what you have written it seems that the theme is that each journey has so many treats when it comes right down to it.

Hugs to you both,
Darrin
