sixty dollars

Hey!!! from Singapore. This city is super clean, orderly and organized. So much so that you are not allowed to chew gum for fear that people would spit it on the ground and deface the spic and span streets. This is true, I kid you not. It is against the law to chew gum here!!
This place seems nice, but it is so astronomically expensive, its tough for us to get into it here. For instance, where we are staying. The place is called Sleepy Sams, and is a hostel. It is running us about 60$$ usd a night to stay here. Well above our daily budget. This is by far the most expensive place we have stayed at in this entire trip {besides Paje By Night in Tanzania, but we planned that before we even were on the trip, so it was ok}. This place is literally the cheapest place to stay here in Singapore, that is unless you want to stay in a flea pit hostel in the red light district with sleazy people coming and going all night according to the reviews!!! umm..no thank you.
This place is fine though, and would be cute if we were 19, when staying in hostels is appropriate. We were lucky enough to score a "private" room to sleep in, as the whole upstairs is just a giant room full of bunk beds, and along 2 walls are blocked off rooms that have a bed, a lamp and enough room to put our bags on the floor so that we cannot walk anywhere. Oh, and no sound privacy as the walls are super thin and there is a huge slatted vent on the wall facing all the bunk beds, as is our door slatted. So we hear everyone snoring, walking, talking..whatever. For the 60$ a night, we also get to share 4 bathroom/shower rooms with everyone else. Two of which are upstairs, and two that are downstairs {where no one sleeps}. I, of course had to use the ladies bright and early, stumbled out of our pea sized room, down the hall past sleepers, to find both showers being occupied, and the toilets are in the shower room. I then had to go downstairs to find both showers being occupied as well!!!. I had to wait there, groggy eyed, hair a mess, and needing to pee like crazy for someone to get done with the shower!!
Later that morning we went to the front area to ask for our complimentary breakfast..2 pieces of toast. That's it. I thought for 60$ we would at least get eggs, or even a croissant instead of toast. There are a few other amenities though, like a big tv with a dvd player in the common room, but then there are only a few crappy movies available, and only a cushion on the floor big enough for 2 people, so you cannot even lounge there and be comfy. There is also free internet {which I am on right now} which is lovely, but out of the 5 computers, 2 are broken, and the other 3 seem to always be occupied {I got lucky at the moment!!}.
so..all in all if you are coming to Singapore plan on having a pretty penny in your pocket, or else you get this place.
xoxoxo
