City Life

hey!!!
Ok, so we have been in Bangkok now for a week. I have been loving it. I cannot express to you people enough how nice it is to be in a bustling environment...wait..get this...that is CLEAN, ORGANIZED, HASSLE FREE!!!! This major city is very unlike the last major cities we were in {Mumbai, Delhi} I feel much more at home here. There still is a lot of air pollution, but its like a field of flowers in comparison.
Public transport here is FAB. We ride the sky train to just about everywhere It is air conditioned to a quick chill..which is lovely because I am constantly dripping sweat when outside. It is muggier here than any east coast 90* afternoon. Not only is the air inside the train a welcomed shiver, but there is no pushing or shoving. Everyone is so civilized. I did not even know that such a thing could be possible with public transport!! While waiting for the train there are markings on the ground where the doors will open, and everyone lines up single file on either side of the door opening, and when the train arrives, the people waiting to get on, wait for all the passengers getting off to leave the train entirely before calmly walking on the train!! No matter how packed the train is, it is never uncomfortable, and no one is jabbing into your side. When people talk on the phone on the train, they cover their mouths and talk in hushed voices...very unlike any loudmouth on the buses in San Francisco.
We have also gotten from place to place on the River ferry boats. This too is easy breezy. The water is a clay on the wheel colour and the boats fill to capacity, again quite comfortably, and then it just motors on down the river blowing a whistle to signify the stops.
This city sure does have it together. One other thing that I find quite amazing is that this city really is clean. Not only that, but there are not really trash receptacles all around, its just that people are aware of keeping the place nice, and do not litter!! Go figure its that simple of a concept {India!!!}
Overall, the Thai people are just the nicest. Yes, they are teeny tiny but they are just too precious and have nothing but smiles and prayer hands to offer.
If you end up in South East Asia and are a city girl/boy at heart then, Bangkok is a DO DO!!!!
